# Prepare for a call

> Get a prep brief for your next meeting and make sure Doris records it.

Before a call, Doris can tell you what is on record about the people and the deal. It can also record the call, so that you can review it after.

## Ask Doris for a prep brief

<Steps>
  <Step title="Open Home">
    Select **Home** in the sidebar.
  </Step>

  <Step title="Select Prep for next meeting">
    Select the **Prep for next meeting** shortcut below the composer. Doris sends "Prep for my next meeting" to chat.
  </Step>

  <Step title="Read the answer">
    Doris answers in chat. Ask a follow-up question in the same chat if you need more.
  </Step>
</Steps>

To prepare for a different meeting, type the request in the composer. Name the meeting or the company.

## Get a brief before each meeting

The **Meeting Prep Brief** flow sends you a brief before each meeting. To turn it on, see [Flows](/features/flows).

When the flow is on for you, Doris writes a brief 30 to 90 minutes before each external meeting on your calendar. The meeting does not need a deal. Doris then sends you a message with the title "Your meeting prep brief is ready". Select **Open your brief** to read it.

The brief has seven sections:

* **When / who**
* **Meeting objective**
* **What we know**
* **Key questions to ask**
* **Recommended agenda**
* **Watch-outs**
* **Best next step to secure**

Each point in **What we know** cites its source.

<Note>
  Doris sends no brief when it finds nothing on record about the meeting. A brief built only from the invite would tell you nothing new.
</Note>

After the call, the brief stays with the meeting. It shows in the **Prep** tab of the meeting page. See [Review a call](/features/conversations).

## Check your upcoming meetings

<Steps>
  <Step title="Open Meetings">
    Select **Meetings** in the sidebar.
  </Step>

  <Step title="Select Upcoming">
    Select **Upcoming** in the filter bar. The list shows your own external meetings, soonest first.
  </Step>

  <Step title="Read the Prep column">
    **Ready** means Doris has written a prep brief for that meeting. A dash means there is no brief yet.
  </Step>
</Steps>

Internal meetings and personal appointments do not show in this list.

## Make sure Doris records the call

Doris records a call when its notetaker joins the meeting. Your admin sets when the notetaker joins by itself. If it does not join by itself, you can send it.

### From the Upcoming list

The **Bot** column shows one switch for each meeting.

* **Record** means the notetaker will not join. Select it to turn recording on.
* **Recording** means the notetaker will join. Select it to turn recording off.

You cannot change the switch after the call starts.

If Doris cannot turn recording on, it shows the reason. One reason is that your workspace is at its recording limit.
