# Monitors

> A standing watch on the public web, written as the headline you hope to read, delivered as a report that names the deals it touches.

A monitor watches the public web for one thing you care about: a trigger event at an account, a competitor's pricing and launches, a regulator's rulings, or a signal every company in a sector has to announce. When something new appears, Doris writes a report, names the open deals it touches, and tells the people following it.

Monitors are shared across your workspace. Everyone can see every monitor and its reports. The person who created a monitor, or a workspace admin, can edit, pause, resume, run or delete it.

## Before you start

Monitors are turned on per workspace. If **Monitors** is not in your sidebar, ask your Doris contact to enable it.

Each workspace can run 50 monitors. Doris support can raise that for a workspace.

## Create a monitor

    Start from one of four shapes, then complete the sentence:

    * **Account trigger events** — news at one account that changes how you sell to it.
    * **Competitor watch** — pricing, packaging and launches from up to three vendors.
    * **Regulator watch** — one regulator, one subject.
    * **Market signal** — things companies in a sector must announce publicly.

    The sentence you build is the brief. Write it as the headline you hope to read. It is sent as written, so a vague brief gets vague results.

  <Step title="Attach accounts, if the watch is about them">
    Attaching an account from your CRM is what lets a report name the open deals it touches. A watch does not need an account: a regulator or a market signal usually has none.

    If other monitors already watch the same accounts, Doris shows them and offers **Follow** instead of a duplicate.

    **Daily** or **Weekly**. You can also run a monitor on demand from its card.

## What you get

**Reports.** A check that finds something writes a report, a document in the monitor's series with what was found, what changed, and the sources. A check that finds nothing writes no report; it only updates **Last checked**. Doris drops any finding it cannot trace to a page that says it, so a quiet week means nothing verifiable appeared, not that the monitor is broken.

**Accounts this touches.** When a finding is about an attached account, the report names that account's open deals, their stage and owner. This is the part you cannot get from a plain web alert.

**News on the account and the deal.** A finding about an attached account also appears as **News** on that account's page and on the pages of its deals, so anyone preparing for a call sees it without opening the monitor.

**Email when there is news.** The creator and every follower are told when a report is written. Turn **Email me when there is news** off on a monitor if you only want to read reports in Doris.

## Follow, pause, reassign

* **Follow** any monitor to be told about its reports. Unfollow at any time.
* **Pause** a monitor to stop its checks without losing its reports. **Resume** starts them again.
* When someone leaves the workspace, their monitors pause. A workspace admin can reassign each one to another member, who can then resume it.

## If something looks wrong

| **Accounts this touches** is empty             | The finding is about a company that is not an attached account.                                       | Attach the account, and the next report will name its deals.                 |
| The monitor is paused and you did not pause it | Its creator's account was deactivated.                                                                | Ask a workspace admin to reassign it to you, then resume.                    |
| You cannot create a monitor                    | The workspace is at its limit, or it is a demo workspace.                                             | Ask Doris support to raise the limit.                                        |
