# Live coaching

> See which parts of your framework a call has covered, while the call is still running.

Live coaching is a Chrome side panel. During a call it shows which dimensions of your workspace's qualification framework the buyer has actually answered, and occasionally suggests the next question worth asking.

It watches and reports. It never speaks, never joins the conversation, and nothing it produces reaches the buyer.

## What you need

<Note>
  Two people are involved and they are usually not the same person. An **admin** turns coaching on for the workspace and picks the framework. Each **rep** installs the extension and signs in.
</Note>

Coaching only runs on a call a Doris notetaker has joined. The side panel cannot start a session — the bot joining starts one, and the bot leaving ends it.

## Turn it on for the workspace

<Steps>
  <Step title="Open Enablement">
    Go to **Enablement** in the sidebar. **Live coaching** is the section at the top.
  </Step>

  <Step title="Turn on for the workspace">
    Switch it on. Reps can still opt out individually.
  </Step>

  <Step title="Pick a framework">
    Choose which framework loads into the extension. The picker unlocks once the workspace switch is on, and lists your active frameworks. A rep can opt out of coaching, but cannot coach on a different methodology.

    If nobody picks one, coaching falls back to MEDDPICC.
  </Step>
</Steps>

The line at the bottom of the section always states the result — "Coaching is on for you", or which of the two switches is stopping it.

## Install the extension

<Steps>
  <Step title="Add it from the Chrome Web Store">
    Install [Coach by Doris Labs](https://chromewebstore.google.com/detail/coach-by-doris-labs/jbacfinladccmkhbfncofjmaeajdammp). The **Get the extension** button on the Enablement page links to the same listing.
  </Step>

  <Step title="Sign in">
    Open the side panel and sign in with your Doris account. There is no separate extension account and nothing to configure in the panel — it reads whatever your workspace has set.
  </Step>

  <Step title="Turn on coaching for yourself">
    On **Enablement**, switch on **Coach me on my calls**. It applies to calls you own.
  </Step>
</Steps>

The panel works on Google Meet, Zoom and Microsoft Teams. **Play a demo** runs a scripted call without signing in, if you want to see the panel before installing.

## What you see during a call

Open the side panel from the Chrome toolbar when your meeting starts.

Coaching does not begin the moment the bot arrives. The session opens when the bot joins, then takes a minute or so to catch up on what has already been said. Until then the panel says it is waiting.

Once it is running the panel shows:

* **Coverage** — every dimension of the framework, each marked covered or not yet, with the count and a bar
* **The evidence** — point at a dimension to see the buyer's own words that covered it, or what it is still waiting for
* **The question** — at most one at a time, about the dimension the conversation has just opened

## What counts as covered

A dimension is marked covered only when **the buyer** has given a substantive answer that meets the framework's own standard for it, and Doris quotes their words back.

The seller talking about a dimension is not coverage. Nor is a question with no answer, or a passing mention. This is the most common surprise: a call where you covered the ground thoroughly yourself can still read as uncovered, because nobody on the buyer's side confirmed anything.

Coverage is a yes or no, not a score. There is no percentage per dimension, because the judgment underneath is not that precise.

## How often a question appears

Deliberately rarely. You are in a conversation, not a quiz.

| Rule                                | Value      |
| ----------------------------------- | ---------- |
| Questions per dimension, per call | One |
| Minimum gap between two questions | 90 seconds |
| How long a question stays on screen | 30 seconds |

A question is a nudge, not a task. It appears, you take it or you do not, and it leaves on its own. Dismissing it does nothing except clear your screen sooner.

## Turning it off

Switch off **Coach me on my calls** on the Enablement page. Nothing is recorded against you for opting out, and your calls are still processed by Doris exactly as before — coaching is a view on a call, not a condition of one.

An admin switching the workspace off overrides every rep. When that happens the individual switch is disabled and says so.

## Troubleshooting

<AccordionGroup>
  <Accordion title="The panel says 'Waiting for a call' and the bot is already in the meeting">
    Check the Enablement page. If it says "Coaching is off for you", the session was never opened — the bot joining is only acted on when coaching already resolves on for the meeting's owner.

    Turn it on, then start a fresh call. Nothing goes back and opens a session for a bot that is already in the room.
  </Accordion>

  <Accordion title="Coverage stays at zero for the whole call">
    Most often this is an internal call, or one where the buyer said little. Only the buyer's speech can mark a dimension covered.

    It also happens when Doris cannot tell who is on which side. A guest dialling in from an unrecognised account is treated as unknown, and unknown is not the buyer.
  </Accordion>

  <Accordion title="Sign in fails">
    Reinstall from the [Chrome Web Store listing](https://chromewebstore.google.com/detail/coach-by-doris-labs/jbacfinladccmkhbfncofjmaeajdammp). A copy of the extension loaded from a folder rather than the store cannot sign in.
  </Accordion>

  <Accordion title="The framework in the panel is not the one I expected">
    The framework is a workspace setting, chosen on the Enablement page. It is deliberately not per-rep: a team coaching on two methodologies at once cannot compare its own calls.
  </Accordion>
</AccordionGroup>

## What Doris does not do

* It does not send anything to the buyer, ever
* It does not speak, unmute, or appear in the meeting beyond the notetaker you already invited
* It does not score the rep, and coverage is not a performance measure
* It does not configure anything from the panel — every setting lives in [Enablement](/features/custom-frameworks)
